STANDARD FOUR: Human Resource Leadership
A leader ensures staff are involved in effective professional development and learning communities. They recruite, hire and place staff in order to ensure high quality performance and evaluate their performances.
Professional Development/Learning Communities
Grade level PLCs
One of my required duties as the sixth grade assistant prinicipal was to organize and attend the sixth grade PLC team meetings. At the beginning of the year we developed our team's goals and norms. Throughout the school year I framed important data driven discussions and questioning in order to have the team reflect on student learning and achievement. As the year continued I asked members of the team to lead the discussions to work on distributing the leadership among the team members. At times, the PLC meetings were also used to provide specific grade level professional development based on walkthrough and student achievement data. |
Recruiting, Hiring, Placing and Mentoring of Staff
Mentoring New teachers
My duties as the sixth grade assistant principal gave me the opportunities to work closely with some of our beginning teachers. At the beginning of the year we had a new ELA teacher. I worked with her in order to support her lesson planning and provide her with information about the curriculum. In the middle of the year we had a teacher join the team. I held sessions with her to get her acliminated to the schedule, lesson planning and curriculum. Detailed Examination of the School Community and Human Resources (Acess Restricted) This intern assignment required various staff interviews, a review of public data and the collection of a human capital table to gather details about the human resources available. This allows the leadership to capitalize on the various strengths of staff as well as continue to build relationships. |
Teacher and Staff Evaluations
Teacher Walkthroughs
Throughout the year we completed various classroom walkthroughs using the district providing walkthrough form and questions. These walkthroughs focused on the use of SEL activities, providing performance based objectives, increasing student engagement and following the gradual release model. For each walkthrough specific feedback was left through comments which were immediately sent to the teachers via email. Teacher Observations During the school year my mentor principal included me in the observation cycles. I was able to complete a total of eight official observations, along with six practice observations during the first cycle, before I had completed the district required training. This gave me the opporutnity to provide specific feedback through the NCEES system. Please see observation information below. |
