BIOGRAPHY
My name is Emily Makay, and I am working at Northern Granville Middle School as an administrative intern for the 2020-2021 school year. I am excited to learn about the school and get started in my new role. I look forward to meeting many staff and stakeholders while begining our school year. I am really excited to join the team and can’t wait to start contributing my part to the community.
Prior to my internship I taught fifth grade at Creedmoor Elementary School. While teaching, I enjoyed building relationships with my students and families as well as fostering educational growth. I lead our school’s data team, and love helping teachers dissect connections between student learning and outcomes to build a strong classroom environment. I look forward to continuing to do these things in my new position at Northern Granville Middle School.
I would love to share a little about myself. I grew up in central Pennsylvania, attended Pennsylvania State University, and received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education. Last year, I enrolled in North Carolina State University’s masters of school administration program. In 2018 I was lucky enough to marry my wonderful husband, and in January we welcomed our beautiful baby girl, Aria Rose, to the world. In my spare time, which is few and far between with a six-month old, I enjoy reading, watching movies and spending time in the sun. My husband and I also enjoy watching and attending sporting events, even though we don’t agree on the teams!
As a leader, I hope to be accountable and lead by example. I want to help inspire everyone to work hard toward the school’s goals, portray integrity and seek for equitable education for each student. I hope to communicate and listen effectively to build my role in the school community. I can’t wait to start collaborating with staff members for the education of each student here, as well as supporting you all in various capacities.
